Several non-governmental organizations in Murmansk oppose against Governor Yury Yevdokimov and have written an appeal to the Russian Public Chamber where they ask the organ to take control over the elections to the post as Mayor of Murmansk.

Location

In the letter, the organizations accuse Yury Yevdokimov of failing to secure the region’s socio-economic development. In spite the region’s wealth in resources and the fact that several of Russia’s largest enterprises are located within the area, the local authorities every year passes a budget showing deficit, the letter says.

Yevdokimov is being accused of allocating money to “hopeless construction projects”, where firms close to the governor and his surroundings unscrupulously enrich themselves. But to have control over the Oblast budget seems not to be enough for Yevdokmov, the authors say:

- We now witness how Yevdokimov is trying to get control over the Murmansk town budget by promoting his deputy as a candidate to the post as Mayor of Murmansk.

The people behind the letter believes the election campaign takes on a dirty and scandalous character And ask the Public Chamber to take the election under its control, in order to defend people’s rights and interests.

The letter is signed by representatives from different war veterans’ organizations, disable people’s organizations and sport clubs.
