Sevan Marine won Goliat contract

Sevan Marine`s "Goliat" model

Oil company ENI Norway has chosen Sevan Marine and its floating production platform as the preferred model for the Goliat field in the Barents Sea.

Location

- The selection of the Sevan 1000 FPSO on the Goliat field demonstrates the competitiveness of Norwegian technology for challenging offshore environments, says Jan Erik Tveteraas, CEO of Sevan Marine ASA in a press release.

The decision is a blow to competitor Aker Solutions, which offered another concept for the field. The Aker Solution model was planned built in concrete in a Norwegian yard, while the Sevan model will be built in steel, and most probably in a foreign yard.

Sevan will grant a license to Eni for the use of the Sevan 1000 FPSO on the Goliat field The Sevan 1000 FPSO has been developed by Sevan Marine, based on Sevan’s proprietary technology, and will have an oil production capacity of 100,000 bbls/day, a gas production of 3,9 million Sm3/day and an oil storage capacity of 1 million bbls. Electrification from shore will provide reduced emission of CO2 and the oil containment system will reduce the risk for oil pollution. The oil containment system will be protected by ballast tanks in the sides and bottom area. There will be no contact between the oil and the ballast water, preventing the emission of polluted ballast water, the company informs.

The contract between ENI and Sevan is estimated to 150 million NOK, Offshore.no reports.

In a press release on the issue, Aker Solutions expresses hope for other assignments in the project. While the design of Sevan won the first part of the bid, it is still not decided which company will be responsible for the construction part.

The Goliat field, located about 50 km from the Snohvit gas field, contains an estimated 200 million barrels of oil. The field was discovered in year 2000.
