Dmitrii Bezdelov is 37 years of age and comes from a post in the Ministry of Defence. He also has work experiences from a Gazprom subsidiary.
The Border Development Agency was established last year in a bid to improve the state of affairs on the country’s borders. Putin has himself expressed strong discontent with the situation in the Russian Customs.
In a meeting in 2006, Putin asked former minister of economic development German Gref, the man responsible for the customs services, about when the situation with the “inter-mingling of customs authorities with business representatives on the borders in an economic ecstasy will end”.
Putin, who is heading a government Border Commission, in the commission meeting of 26 June this year appointed his loyal protégé Sergey Ivanov new deputy head of the commission.
