The world’s tallest wooden building is supposed to become an architectonic monument of the Norwegian-Russian cooperation and the historical good relations. At the same time the house is supposed to gather all competence on Norwegian-Russian relations in Kirkenes in one house.
– This house will be a centre for the international cooperation of this region, and is aimed at becoming a transboundary arena for innovation and development for the unique local competence on these issues, says Rune Rafaelsen, head of the Norwegian Barents Secretariat.
Investor Arthur Buckhardt is ready to build the house, but it will not be possible without a go from the county council of Sør-Varanger. The municipality will be one of the most important tenants in the building, which is planned to include both the cultural centre and a library for Sør-Varanger.
Last week Buckhardt presented his plans for the county council and concluded from his visit that the general response he got was a positive one. However, there are many obstacles to climb before the building can be realized.
