In the period 24th to 30th of May Murmansk will be the center for Arctic film production, newspaper Komsomolskaya Pravda writes. The international film festival is called “Polar Lights” and was initiated by the Murmansk regional government.
Filmmakers from Russia, Canada, Denmark, Iceland, Finland, Norway, Sweden and the USA have been invited to the festival, the festival’s web site reads.
The competition program of the festival will include feature movies released after January 2009. The non-competition program will include documentaries and feature films focusing on the life of indigenous peoples of the North.
The Russian film critic Sergey Sholokhov is invited to lead the program committee and the famous Norwegian director Knut Erik Jensen is one of the jury members.
The festival is approved and supported by Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Culture.
