Investor interested in Arkhangelsk peat

The company MIR is planning to start peat processing in the Arkhangelsk region. According to preliminary estimations annual peat production in the region might exceed 1 million tons.

Location

An agreement on cooperation is expected to be concluded in the nearest future between the Arkhangelsk regional Government and JSC MIR in terms of development of innovative energy- and resource-saving technologies.

The agreement also covers development and improvement of efficiency within the fuel and energy complex, as well as extraction industries and agriculture.

One of the priorities for JSC MIR is the establishment of facilities for integrated non-waste processing of peat. It is worth mentioning that total area of peat deposits on the territory of the Arkhangelsk region is 8.7 million hectares, and the stocks according to some estimations reach the amount of 11 billion tons. More than 50 peat fields have been found only in the Kholmogory district.

The company has plans to reconstruct heat supply systems, including boiler houses, in the settlements Kholmogory and Lomonosovo, in the village Malaya Tovra, and the settlement Katunino in the Primorsky district. There is an idea also to establish production and storage of strategic reserve of composite sorbents made of peat for the needs of the RF Ministry of Emergencies.

The investor is going to supply the products manufactured in the result of integrated peat processing to the local market and also export them to the Middle and Far East countries (Libya, UAE, Tunis, Thailand, etc.) and South America.
