New research office in Kirkenes

Per-Arne Emaus - Norut Kirkenes

The Northern Research Institute Norut has opened a new research office in Kirkenes, Northern Norway.

Location

The objective of the new office is to launch and carry out applied research in order to develop industrial activities and socioeconomic conditions in the Kirkenes region and in the Russian part of the Barents Region, a press release from the newly established office reads.

For the moment the office in Kirkenes has one researcher on permanent basis. Researcher Per-Arne Emaus is a market economist with many years of experiences from analyses in fisheries, particularly in aquaculture. Thus he has an excellent background for launching applied fisheries related research from Kirkenes.

Norut is a national research group located in Northern Norway with institutes in all the three northernmost counties. The Kirkenes branch is Norut’s third office in Finnmark.

An important objective for establishing an office in Kirkenes is that it should increase the opportunity for companies in the Kirkenes region to make use of all the competence of Norut’s Finnmark offices, including knowledge of Russian society and socioeconomics as well as Russian language. Moreover it is important that the availability to Norut’s other competence should increase, particularly the technical and industrial competence of Norut’s institute in Narvik.
