The company plans to extend its reserves with 180 000 tons of nickel, 550 000 tons of copper and 135 tons of platinoids by investing nearly RUB 1.8 billion in geological surveys in 2011, Metaprom.ru writes.
In the period 2008-2010 Norilsk Nickel invested a little less than RUB 4 billion and expanded its reserves with a total of 8.6 million tons.
Norilsk Nickel’s main production areas are on the Kola Peninsula and in Norilsk. Norilsk Nickel is one of the main tax payers in Murmansk Oblast. In 2010 the company’s division on the Kola Peninsula paid 6.6 billion roubles (€171 million) in tax to Murmansk Oblast.
