A parade of 1785 men and 62 technical units took part in the military parade on the central square of Murmansk as part of the local 9 May celebration. Crew from the French frigate “Latouche-Treville” also participated in the parade.

According to GTRK Murman, some 10 000 people had gathered in the city center to watch the parade. This year’s celebrations in Murmansk were the largest ever, as was the case for most towns and cities all over Russia.

Thousands of people defied the sleety weather and 4 degrees Celcius and joined the procession for the nearly five kilometers long walk up to the Alesha war memorial assembly.

At the assembly the Governor of Murmasnk Oblast Dmitry Dmitriyenko, Commander of the Northern Fleet Nikolay Maksimov and several other officials held speeches honoring the memory of the soldiers who fell in the war. Speeches were also held by a Russian war veteran from the Petsamo-Kirkenes operation and a British veteran from the Murmansk convoys.

In the Kola Bay, ten vessels, including the “Latouche-Tréville”, a Russian submarine and eight other Russian warships and coast guard ships showed off in a parade.
