Norwegian military delegation visits Murmansk

Upcoming Chief of Defence Haakon Bruun-Hanssen leads Norway’s delegation to the annual top meeting between the Joint Headquarters in Bodø and FSB’s Border Guard.

The coast guard vessel “KV Svalbard” moored at the fisheries port in Murmansk earlier this week, carrying the official delegation. Admiral Bruun-Hanssen was met by Head of FSB’s Border Guard Service in Murmansk Oblast Lieutenant General Sergey Kudryashov, TV-21 reports.

It has become a tradition for Norwegian and Russian coast guard to pay each other a fleet visit at least once a year. During official meetings the two sides discuss upcoming joint events and sign a protocol on cooperation in the coming year. In 2012 Russia’s newest Coast Guard vessel “MGS Sprut” made port calls to both Bodø and Sortland in Northern Norway.

Admiral Haakon Bruun-Hanssen, who has held position as Chief of the Armed Forces Joint Headquarters since 2011, was appointed Chief of Defence in June 2013 and will take over the position later this autumn. Bruun-Hanssen is the first Chief of Defence from the Navy since 1994.

New Chief of the Armed Forces Joint Headquarter is General Major Morten Haga Lunde, who has been second in command at the headquarters since 2010.
