Cooperation between indigenous peoples in the North will reach new levels when a center for promotion of indigenous people’s culture opens in the Russian capital on Tuesday.

Location

Russian RAIPON and Norwegian Sami organizations Center for Northern Peoples and Riddu Riđđu Festivála have together established the center, which aims at promoting cooperation between indigenous peoples in the North by uniting the resources and unique networks of the three founders.

The opening will be followed by a concert by Norwegian Sami world music artist Mari Boine and leading Russian indigenous artists from northern parts of Russia.

At the same day, the Norwegian Barents Secretariat and RAIPON – the Russian Association of Indigenous Peoples in the North, Siberia and Far East – will sign an agreement on cooperation on further upgrading and development the already longstanding and well-established cooperation between the two organizations.

The agreement takes into account the two parties’ mutual interest in development of indigenous peoples’ communities and increased cooperation between indigenous peoples in Russia and Norway.
