27 000 pupils in Murmansk have been given an early autumn break because of the flu epidemic, TV company Vesti reports. There is no mention of swine flu in Russian media, only that the epidemic is typical for the season.
- The situation is under control, and there is no reason to panic, Murmansk Oblast Minister for Education and Science Vasliy Kostyukevich told the TV company.
The schools in Murmansk are planned to stay closed until November 2. Today there are 997 cases of swine flu registered in Russia, Vesti reports.
The city of Rovaniemi, Lapland, already has up to a thousand cases of swine flu, according to the Lapland Central Hospital, YLE.fi reports.
Rovaniemi has received 1,500 doses of the vaccine, which will be given to health care personnel next week. The Lapland Central Hospital received another thousand doses. After health care and hospital staff, the next in line for jabs is pregnant women.
