Vice-Admiral Vladimir Korolyov, currently holding post as Commander of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet, will probably become the new Commander of the Northern Fleet.

Location

Korolyov will probably be appointed Commander in the near future, a military source tells RIA Novosti. According to the source, the appointment means a promotion, since “the Northern Fleet, as opposed to the Black Sea Fleet, has strategic nuclear powers and an extensive geography for its bases”.

As BarentsObserver reported, Commander of the Northern Fleet Admiral Nikolay Maksimov has been appointed Chief of Staff and Deputy Commander of the Western Military District and has already left Northern Russia.

Vladimir Ivanovich Korolyov has held post as Commander of the Black Sea Fleet since July 2010, as BarentsObserver reported. He is born in 1955 and has a long carrier in the navy, especially in the submarine forces. In 2007-2009 he was Deputy Commander of Chief of Staff in the Northern Fleet.

Chief of Staff and Deputy Commander Vice-admiral Andrey Olgertovich Volozhinsky has held post as Acting Commander of the Northern Fleet since February 2011.

New Commander of the Black Sea Fleet will probably be today’s Commander of the Leningrad Naval Base Rear Admiral Aleksander Fedotenkov, RIA Novosti writes. Also he has served in the Northern Fleet.
