Murmansk governor accompanied Putin to Helsinki

Governor of Murmansk Dmitry Dmitriyenko was part of Prime Minister Vladimir Putin’s delegation in last week’s Finnish-Russian top meeting in Helsinki.

Governor Dmitriyenko, who was appointed regional leader in Murmansk Oblast in April this year, is taking an active part in international cooperation. As BarentsObserver reported, he attended the recent meeting between PM Vladimir Putin and his Norwegian counterpart Jens Stoltenberg.

According to a press release from the Murmansk government, Dmitriyenko was also part of Putin’s delegation to Helsinki last week and attended the meeting with the Finnish cabinet leader Matti Vanhanen.

-For us, these contacts are very important, since Murmansk Oblast has a common border with Finland, Dmitriyenko underlines in the press release. –We have two border crossing points, much cultural and humanitarian connections, business interaction – therefore we have much to discuss.

He confirmed that energy projects, tourism, road maintenance and the border point development was high on the Murmansk agenda in Helsinki.
