Unknown individuals have over the last weeks bought a major number of shares in the newspaper, Naryan-Mar Online reports with reference to Rosbalt. The newspaper staff believes the regional administration of Governor Ilya Mikhalchuk is behind the acquisitions. They fear that editor in chief Sakharov might face dismissal already in the near future.
-Already next week, people loyal to the regional administration might take over the management of the newspaper, a local journalist told Rosbalt.
In his first press conference as governor, newly appointed regional governor Mikhalchuk harshly criticized Pravda Severa for its news coverage.
The financial crisis has made the newspaper more vulnerable for hostile attacks. Pravda Severa is the main regional newspaper with about 21000 daily printed issues. It was founded in 1917.
