By year 2020, Russians will make an average of 30.000 USD a year, labour productivity will be increased 3-4 times, life expectancy rise to 75 years and the innovation economy flourish, the Russian government’s new long-term development plan reads.

-Our strategic goal is to bring Russia on the road of a sustainable innovative economy, create better opportunities for our citizens within the field of education and health, improve the environmental situation, and strengthen the security of the population, Prime Minister Putin said in government session this week. The new social and economic development plan, elaborated by the Ministry of Economic Development, covers the period until 2020.

The ambitious plan includes the stabilization of the Russian population, currently reduced with more than 500,000 individuals per year following the high national death rates and low birth rates. Average salaries are to be increased by 100-150 percent, and labour productivity with as much as up to 300 percent. Meanwhile, the innovative economy will be increase from today’s six percent of the overall national economy to 25 percent.

The goals will be reached with the help of major reforms within the healthcare system, the modernization of the pension system, as well as infrastructure programmes and the integration of Russia in the world trade system, the government writes in a press release.
