The new platforms from WindSea will have three turbins on each platform, floating out on open ocean. 30 platform like this could produce 1200 GWh energy per year, which is the equivalent of 60 000 households. In a press release from the WindSea company they state that no other ocean wind power projects have presented solutions as convincing as this. The cost of investments per produced megawatt is highly competitive compared to similar projects.

Last year the total turn over of wind power energy in Europe was almost 13 billion EUR. It is expected that the turnover wil triple within 2020.

The concept is developed with Norwegian offshore competence and Danish competence in wind power. The plan is to develop a prototype which can be ready in 2011. The investors in WindSea is the Norwegian state owned energy company, Statkraft, NLI Innovation and FORCE Technology.
