The industry believes access to new exploration areas, among them outside Spitsbergen, is a prerequisite for the development of the Norwegian provinces, NRK reports. In the report “The energy nation Norway – further developments and renewal in a new environmental and geopolitical era”, the industry interests also highlights the need to focus more on gas extraction and the development of renewable energy sources.

The Norwegian Oil Industry Association (OLF) in a press release this week expresses disappointment with the number of blocks announced in the Barents Sea. In its 20th round of announcements this year, the government offered 30 exploration blocks in the area, while the industry itself demanded 129 blocks.
