Three times hurray for Murmansk oblast.

These were the greeting words from Yury Evdokimov, the governor of Murmansk oblast, when addressing the audience gathered on 23 May 2008 for celebration of the 70 year anniversary of Murmansk oblast.

Location

Apart from it there was a march-parade of brass bands and concerts performed by different cities of Murmansk oblast, followed up by the firework in the centre of the city. Many things happened since Murmansk oblast was founded in 1938. In their speeches guests and participants were talking about the hardships encountered by people living in the High North, dramatic history of the region, stressing the kindness and commitment of northern people, who managed to preserve and multiply the richness of Kola land. Before 1938 Murmansk oblast was a part of a bigger Northern administrative entity together with Arkhangelsk and Karelia. Polar Region is a unique land, which is widely known for its mineral wealth, northern seas’ resources, huge industrial enterprises, branching transport infrastructure, and of course people, who made this remoted territory one of the most perspective regions of Russia.
