The events traditionally starts from Margaritinskaya fair, or “Yarmarka” which is the Russian term. This is doubtless the biggest trade event of the year and serves both as an exhibition of local brands of the region, but also as noisy and merry commercial arrangement. Here one can buy anything from a handful of wild berries to last model of a car.

Also Margaritisnkaya Yarmarka includes a number of political events, meetings and conferences. This year this program was started from the 4th Interregional Forum of Pomors. There were delegations from all Russian coastal areas of the White Sea, Barents Sea and Kara seas and even a community of “Norwegian Pomors” from Vardo. Political program will be continued on Monday and Tuesday by a networking meeting of Norwegian-Russian Chamber of Commerce and seminar summarizing the results of the project “Northern Maritime Corridor/”.

Øyvind Nordsletten, the new Consul General of Norway to Murmansk is among the prominent guests of Margaritinskaya Yarmarka. This is his first visit in new position to Arkhangelsk and the next week will be filled with a number of meetings in the Regional Government, Council of Deputies, City administration, Arctic Federal University and other institutions. Margaritinskaya Yarmarka presents the best possibility to the diplomat to make full impression about the region. Øyvind Nordsletten will also take part in the Second International Arctic Forum, which opens on Thursday and where Russia´s Prime Minister Vladimir Putin is one of the participants.
