Christmas was celebrated in Russia on January 7 with Christmas Eve on January 6. The 13-day difference in comparison to Western Europe is due to the difference in the Julian Calendars that the Orthodox Church is following.
The northern Christmas was marked with traditional procession at the wooden art museum Malye Korely just south of Arkhangelsk. The ladies were wearing old folk costume from the areas along the Northern Dvina River and countryside of Arkhangelsk region.
The tradition of celebrating Christmas has been revived since 1992, after decades of suppression during the Soviet times.
