Three new ports for Murmansk

Regional authorities in Murmansk plan the development of three new ports, one in the Pechenga Bay close to the border to Norway, one in closer military town of Vidyaevo and one in Teriberka, the main hub for the Shtokman project, a regional official confirms.

Deputy Head of the Murmansk Department of Industry and Transport, Mr Sergey Leus said at a recent port development conference said that the main priority of the regional administration remains the development of the Murmansk port, which can handle 300,000 ton tankers. In addition, there are plans for the development of ports in Pechenga, Vidyaevo and Teriberka, he said. According to the official, the main obstacle for port development in Murmansk Oblast is the insufficiently developed railway infrastructure in the region, Murmanchanin.ru reports with reference to Regnum. Murmansk Oblast today has three ports, in Murmansk, Kandalaksha and Vitino.
