Accounts Chamber’s revision aimed at replacing Yury Yevdokimov

Yuri Yevdokimov, Murmansk Governor

The reason for the Accounts Chamber’s revision of budget processes in Murmansk Oblast might have been to replace Governor Yury Yevdokimov. The revision, requested by United Russia after Yevdokimov openly criticized the party, indicates that the former regional administration mismanaged 1.5 billion RUB of federal money.

As BarentsObserver earlier reported, the Accounts Chamber in the course of the recent city mayor election campaign started a special inspection of the Murmansk administration on the request of the State Duma fraction of United Russia. That request came after Governor Yevdokimov openly criticized the party for running a dirty election campaign in the region.

The inspection by the federal financial watchdog the Accounts Chamber reportedly shows that 1.5 billion RUB of the region’s 37 billion RUB of revenues cannot be reported for. About 13 billion RUB of the revenues were federal transfers. The 2008 budget had a 36.7 billion RUB spending frame.

When asked if Yevdokimov will face any penalty after the revision, Head of the Accounts Chamber answered that “Murmansk Oblast now has a new governor”, but added that there will be changes in the administration. Political experts believe this gives reason to presume that the revision was conducted precisely to remove Yury Yevdokimov from the post as governor and that the results can be used against disloyal members of the administration, news agency Regnum reports.

The Accounts Chamber will finish its revision on Friday.
