Jonas has been working for the Norwegian Barents Secretariat since 2008. He has a Masters Degree in Geography from NTNU in Trondheim from 2003. Between 2003 and 2008 he worked as a journalist in the local newspaper in Kirkenes, Sør-Varanger Avis.

The Norwegian Government today presented its National Transportation Plan (NTP) for 2010 – 2019. Among several planned projects is a new 34 million EUR road between Kirkenes and the Russian border.

Europe’s longest and the World’s northernmost dog sled race is running trough Finnmark County in northern Norway this week. The race is 1000 kilometers long and 36 sleds compete for the victory.

A group of international experts have studied the world’s fishery nations to find out who is adapting best to the UN’s code of conduct for fisheries. Norway and Iceland came out on top of the list. However, not even these countries made a good score and are criticized in the report.
