The world’s largest nuclear powered icebreaker “50 Years of Victory” is on its way back to Murmansk from the Bay of Finland.

For the first time in history there are two nuclear-powered icebreakers in the narrow Bay of Finland at the same time, as “Rossiya” already has arrived to replace “50 Years of Victory”, RIA Novosti reports.

According to a contract between Rosatomflot and Rosmorport, nuclear-powered icebreakers will be operating in the Bay of Finland for 100 days this winter.

50 Years of Victory” will leave Finnish waters on March 9 and pass Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and go through the Danish Straits before it sets course northwards a few nautical miles off the coast of Norway. The way back to Murmansk is planned to take seven days.

In course of the month “50 Years of Victory” has operated in the Bay of Finland, the vessel has escorted 128 vessels to and from St. Petersburg.
