Norway’s Consulate General in Murmansk assures that urgent visa applications in Arkhangelsk still can be issued with express delivery.

BarentsObserver reported earlier this week that visa applicants in Arkhangelsk now are recommended to apply “at least one month before planned trip” even though the handling time is limited to two weeks.

The one-month recommendation was also posted at Norway’s official portal in Russia, Norvegia.ru.

Head of the visa section at the Norwegian Consulate General in Murmansk, Marit Egholm Jacobsen, today says that information is “obviously wrong” since the consulate announces a two week processing time.

“We have always stated that applicants should pre-plan the application process, bacuase it might be that we need additional documents. This is nothing new. We can also make express visas in shorter time if needed,” says Marit Egholm Jacobsen.

She explains that the Consulate General in Murmansk receives applications from Arkhangelsk three times a week, so in urgent cases, a visa can be made in four days.

Norway’s new visa centre, operated by VFS Global, opened in Arkhangelsk on Tuesday.
