Russian trawler detained by Norwegian Coast Guard

The Russian trawler “Novoazovsk” was detained by the Norwegian coast guard vessel “KV Nordkapp” in the Norwegian Sea today, accused of illegal dumping of fish.

Location

The trawler was detained right now being escorted by the CG vessel to port in Tromsø for further investigation, ITAR-TASS reports, citing the Russian Fisheries Agency.

“Novoazovsk” belongs to the Arkhangelsk Trawl Fleet and is based in Murmansk.

The vessel’s captain is accused of breaking the rules of fishing in Norwegian Economic Zone by dumping dead or dying fish overboard. According to the captain, the reason for the arrest was “an accidental one-time wash-out of fish due to damage in the protective fence of the scupper pipe”.
