New direct domestic flights from Barents Russia to Crimea

First scheduled Nordavia flight to take off from Arkhangelsk to Simferopol on May 9th. The airliner considers route also from Murmansk.

Location

Simferopol is the capital of Crimea with around 350,000 inhabitants and has always been a popular destination for northern Russians during summer season.

Arkhangelsk-based Nordavia airliner has, with exception of charter flights, no routes out of Russia and couldn’t earlier offer flights to Ukraine’s main airport on Crimea. Not so any longer, as flights to Simferopol suddenly are considered to be domestic flights.

This week, Arkhangelsk Governor Igor Orlov announced that his administration has agreed with Nordavia that scheduled flights directly from the Pomor Capital to Crimea’s capital will be launched from May 9th. The new route will be operated utilising the airline’s Boeing 737, reports the Press Centre of the Governor.

“Opening regular flights will help establish close relations with Crimea,” Igor Orlov says.

Nordavia is also considering opening a similar route from Murmansk to Simferopol this summer.

“We will work out the technical and operational issues and explore the marked demand, says Igor Gurevich, Public Relations Director of Nordavia, interviewed by Murmansk based news-agency B-port
