100 windmills planned for northern Sweden

Blaiken windmill farm in Västerbotten will be one of the biggest onshore in Europe.

Location

It is Finnish energy company Fortum and Swedish Skellefteå Kraft that are partners in the joint venture to create the windmill project. With planned 100 wind turbines, the total capacity will be 250 MW, reports Vesterbotten Folkblad. The estimated productions will some 600 to 720 GWh annually.

Blaiken area is located in the inland, west of Storuman towards the border to Norway. Construction starts this year. Due to existing hydropower plants in the area, the grid is already developed.
