More Gazprom money for Arctic

Gazprom is boosting its investment budget for the Arctic.
Gazprom is currently the world's largest civilian investor in the Arctic.

A revised investment programme shows that Gazprom this year ups investments with almost 50 percent to a record-beating 1,27 trillion RUB (29 billion EUR).

The revised investment programme approved by Gazprom’s board of directors on Tuesday includes 1,27 trillion RUB, up 460 billion RUB from the former programme version adopted in November last year, a press release from the company informs.

The company especially highlights its projects in Yamal, as well as in Eastern Siberia and the Far East. The development of the huge Bovanenkovo field in Yamal is going full speed and production is due to start in the third quarter of 2012. The field, which has gas reserves estimated to 4,9 trillion cubic meters, will deliver an annual output of 115 billion cubic meters, all to be shipped in a new west-bound pipeline.

Gazprom’s investment programme has never been this big. The company usually revises its investment programme in the course of the year, however this kind of increase has not before taken place, newspaper Vedomosti reports.

Also the Prirazlomnoye and the Shtokman field are major priorities in the investment programme.
