Murmansk human rights activist beaten

Larisa Arap, the political active human rights activist, has been hospitalized after unknown attackers beat and injured her near her place of work in Murmansk.

Ms. Arap – a representative of the United Civil Front – had ahead of the incident repeatedly been threatened and bullied by a group of locals, Newsru.com reports with reference to Kasparov.ru.

The human rights activist is now hospitalized on the fifth day in Murmansk with head injury and a number of bruises.

According to Kasparov.ru, local police refused to start a case on the incident, arguing that there were unclear circumstances around the incident. It took several days before Ms. Arap was hospitalized. The doctors then saw the gravity of the injuries.

Larisa Arap became well known all over Russia after her reports about authorities still using hospitalization in psychiatric hospitals as a way of political suppression. As BarentsObserver reported Arap was forcefully hospitalized and kept locked up for a longer period. She herself argues that the hospitalization was linked with her political work.
