Murmansk Governor next to be discharged?

Dmitry Dmitriyenko could be discharged from his post as Governor of Murmansk Oblast.

Dmitry Dmitriyenko could be next in line to leave office after United Russia’s setback in the December Duma elections, Russian media writes.

Location

Last Friday President Medvedev fired Ilya Mikhalchuk, Governor of Arkhangelsk Oblast, one of the regions where United Russia lost most votes compared to the elections four years ago. Several other regional leaders could be facing the same destiny.

Murmansk Oblast Governor Dmitry Dmitriyenko and Governor of Volgograd Anatoly Brovko only have one week left in office, a source close to the Russian Government said to Vedomosti. Both Dmitriyenko and Brovko were among the 15 governors to be summoned for an immediate meeting in Kreml after the ruling party United Russia did poorly in the elections to parliament, as BarentsObserver reported.

In Arkhangelsk Oblast United Russia got 31.9 percent of the votes, down from 56.7 percent in 2007. In Murmansk Oblast, United Russia got 32 percent, down from 55 percent four years ago.

Governor of the Republic of Karelia Andrey Nelidov is also on the list of governors that Kreml wants to see replaced, according to Vedomosti.
