The well is one of the northernmost drilling operations in the Norwegian part of the Barents Sea.

Location

Drilling will soon start at the Norvag gas prospect, some 300 kilomtres north-east of Hammerfest in the Barents Sea.

This is the first time the Norwegian independent Det norske oljeselskap drills in the Barents Sea. The rig will be West Phoenix expected to drill to a target depth of 4,000 metres, reports Upstream.

French oil major Total is operator of the license with a 40 percent stake, with partners Det norske, Rocksource and North Energy holding interests of 40 percent.
