TsypNavolok village on Rybachy Peninsula.

The Russian Armed Forces are planning to test new vehicles on Rybachy Peninsula not far from the border to Norway.

Location

Specialists from the Ministry of Defense’s Research Institute’s center for vehicle testing will this winter be testing new and future types of tracked vehicles, automobiles and other equipment on the Rybachy Peninsula on the coast of the Barents Sea, Deputy Minister of Defense Dmitry Bulgakov says to TASS.

The Ministry of Defense’s expedition will review performance, technical characteristics and possibilities for military use in Arctic conditions for more than 20 different vehicles, including snowmobiles with sleighs, low-pressure tire vehicles, two-section track carriers, and armored vehicles “Rys” and “Tayfun”.

The expedition will spend three days on the peninsula and cover some 500 kilometers in snow and ice.

A similar test was conducted this summer, when new vehicles were being tested in desert, sandy and rocky landscapes in Astrakhan and Kabardino-Balkaria.
