New county Governor in Troms

Pia Svensgaard will most likely be the new County Governor in Troms, Norway, when Paul Dalhø steps down for health reasons in March.

Location

Dalhø got health problems last fall and said at a press-conferance in Tromsø on Wednesday that he steps down from the Governor post and will give priority to his health, home and the family, reports the internet site of Troms County.

Paul Dalhø has been full-time politician for the last 16 years. Paul Dahlø is known both in Norway and Russia as a politician actively involved in the Barents cooperation, both as a member of the Regional Council and in work by the Norwegian Barents Secretariat

Another true Barents friend, Pia Svensgaard, is likely to take over the position as County Governor in Troms, writes Nordlys. The regional parliament in Troms will elect the new county council, including the new governor, in March. Svennsgaard is like Dahlø from the Labour Party. Today Pia Svensgaard is Executive Councillor in Troms County Government, with responsibility for Business & Culture.

In Troms, the system of parliamentarianism has been introduced and Troms County Council is politically represented by the elected County Government. The current County Government is made up by four representatives from two different parties, Labour and the Socialist Left Party. The Executive Councillors are elected by and accountable to the County Parliament, and responsible for the county council administration. The County Parliament is elected for a period of four years.
