Are you tired of filling out a bunch of documents every time you bring your car cross the Russian border? Now, new customs procedures might make your border-crossing a bit easier.

Location

The Northwest Russian Customs administration informs that it will abolish the declaration form currently used on private people’s vehicles. From the 20th June this year, the intricate declaration form will be replaced by a card, which includes all the necessary information about your car. All that is needed with the new system is to bring the card, get it stamped and proceed across the border, a press release from the customs authority informs

-This will definitely positively affect the speed of border-crossing, Head of the Vyartsilya border checkpoint Irina Kazantseva says.

However, far from everyone will benefit from the new procedure. Only the most frequent border-crossers will face less red tape at the Russian checkpoints. The new system will apply only for the ones who cross the border more than once every ten days. The rest of us will be stuck with the old form.

The new procedure can also only be applied in one Russian federal subject. Consequently, if you get your vehicle card in Murmansk Oblast, you will be able to use it only in that region.

According to Barentsnova, the same facilitated border crossing procedure has been in force for Russian travellers since 1 July 2010
