“The selling of the port is of great concern”, Igor Fyodorov, regional governor of the Nenets Autonomous Okrug, says about the upcoming auction on the Naryan-Mar Sea Port.
The federal Property Agency intends to sell the state-owned object in an upcoming auction. The starting price for the object is 41 million RUB.
According to the Nenets administration, the local port is a unique strategic asset, which will be of major importance for future Arctic developments. It should not be sold, at least not for only 41 million RUB, the administration argues in a press release.
“The uncontrolled privatization of this strategic object will have unpredictable consequences”, port director Ivan Chemko told the governor in a recent meeting. According to Chemko, the Naryan-Mar port is one of few companies along the Northern Sea Route able to handle “any complex tasks”, Dvinainform.ru reports.
