Chinese money for Arkhangelsk energy

The TGC-2 strikes major deals with Chinese investors.

The China Huadian Corporation acquires stakes in Arkhangelsk power generating units.

Location

Huadian, a major state-owned power generating company, will invest in the construction of new generating capacities in the cities of Severodvinsk and Arkhangelsk. A deal between the parts was signed in the presence of Presidents Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping during the recent APEC meeting in Beijing.

The Russian part in the projects is the Territorial Generating Unit No 2 (TGC-2), one of the major electricity generating companies in Northwest Russia.

The Chinese investments include six combined heat and power units (CHPs) with total capacity of 450 MW, a press release from the Chinese company reads. Huadian will be the owner of the units through its control over the stock capital, the company confirms.

From before, the company cooperates with TGC-2 about construction of generating units in the region of Yaroslavl.

”I have no doubts that these agreements will be followed up”, Arkhangelsk Governor Igor Orlov says in a press release. According to the governor, also Gazprom might ultimately join the projects. 

The China Huadian Corporation engages in production and supply of electricity and heat. It produces about 10 percent of power in China.
