The signing of the agreement took place this week in the premises on the Shtokman Development AG in Moscow, Murmansky Vestnik reports.
According to the agreement, the two parts will hold joint consultations, work meetings and exchange information about environment in the region.
-We are very happy that Shtokman Development AG starts consultations with environmental organizations at this early stage, Director of WWF Russia Igor Chestin says. He maintains that the agreement is unprecedented in Russia.
The Shtokman project includes the laying of a 600 km long underwater pipeline, the construction of a large LNG plant and other industrial facilities and the laying of a pipeline towards the Baltic, all operations which will affect environment in the region.
As BarentsObserver has reported, the Shtokman Development has from before had several meetings with environmental organisations, among them Nature and Youth and the Bellona Foundation.
