The new North Norway Council will coordinate, strengthen and promote issues of common importance for the region, a statement from the three county administrations reads.
Political leaders from the three counties this week met to formalize the new body.
”This is a committing political cooperation unit,” County Council leader Thomas Norvoll says. Norvoll, a representative of the Nordland County, was appointed as leader of the council, a press release informs.
According to Troms County representative Line Fusdahl, the new Council will play a role in national politics and ”raise north Norwegian issues on the national agenda”.
The three counties are from before involved in joint structures, among them within the frames of the Barents Cooperation. They together own the Norwegian Barents Secretariat, a company promoting east-west relations in the Barents Region.
