Private train companies to travel north

The Oktyabrskaya railway stretch, linking Murmansk with Moscow and St. Petersburg, will in the future allow private passenger railway services to operate.

The opening for private companies to take a share of the huge passenger train marked in Russia is announced as a part of the ongoing reform within the state-owned Russian railway company RZD.

The regional issue of the newspaper Komsomolskya Pravda reports from Murmansk about the railway company’s plans to increase the quality and service on the Oktyabrskaya railway stretch. The line goes from Moscow and St. Petersburg, through Karelia northbound to the Kola Peninsula and Murmansk.

The service onboard the trains to and from Murmansk have improved over the last years with better onboard services and wagons. Komsomolskaya Pravda reports about railway staff learning etiquette and toilets and air conditioning in the trains now working perfectly.

Also over the next years, the railway stations will be reconstructed and projects are underway to connect more airports and seaports with the railway stations along the Oktyabrskaya railway.
