Safe seafood from the Barents Sea

Cod in Northern Norway

A report from the Norwegian Institute of Marine Research states that seafood from the Barents Sea contain low levels of foreign substances.

Location

Analyzes of samples taken in 2009 show that seafood like cod, capelin, shrimp and polar cod from the Barents sea contain relatively low concentrations of environmental poisons like pesticides, brominated flame retardants, metals and organic compounds, the Institute of Marine Research’s web site reads.

The level of dioxins in cod liver still remains relatively high, and earlier recommendations that children, pregnant women and women of childbearing age should avoid eating cod liver, still remains.
