Ground forces from the Northern Fleet are taking part in an anti-terror drill at Kola Nuclear Power Plant.

Location

Around 100 soldiers and 10 vehicles from the Northern Fleet are taking part in an anti-terror drill at the Kola Nuclear Power Plant led by Murmansk Oblast Emergency Response Center. Also units from FSB, the police, the Federal Protective Service and EMERCOM are taking part in the drill.

Anti-terror units from the Northern Fleet’s ground forces drove 300 kilometers on armoured vehicles from their bases close to the border to Norway to Polyarnye Zori on the south of the Kola Peninsula, Northern Fleet’s Press Officer Vadim Serga says to Severpost.

The Northern Fleet takes part in the drill with units from both the 61. Naval Infantry Brigade and the 200. Motorized Rifle Brigade, which became part of the Northern Fleet in December 2012.

According to the scenario for the drill, two “suspicious groups” planning terrorist attacks have been spotted in the power plant’s adjacent areas. The order for the anti-terror groups is to search, blockade, neutralize and eliminate “subversive groups” in a radius of 20 kilometers around the plant.
