The “Polar Lights” film festival is founded by the Murmansk Oblast regional administration and Governor Dmitry Dmitriyenko is the festival’s president.
The competition program includes ten films from Europe, U.S.A., Canada and Russia. Amongst the films are “Fathers and Sons” from Canada, “Here” from U.S.A., “Mama Gogo” from Iceland/Norway, “Act of Nature” from Russia, “Bad Faith” from Sweden, “Steam of Life” from Finland and “A Somewhat Gentle Man” from Norway. The latter has already won several prices at different film festivals.
Among the jurors are the well-known figures of world cinema, including Joel Chapron, a permanent selector at the Cannes Film Festival, and the Russian film director Boris Khlebnikov. The jury will be headed by the Chilean film director Sebastian Alarcon, who studied at the well-known Institute of Cinematography in Moscow.
The Grand Prize in the “Polar Lights” film festival 2010 was given to the Russian movie “How I Ended This Summer”, directed by Aleksey Popogrebsky.
